The Department of Mechanical Engineering organized an industrial visit for final-year Diploma students to GTTC, Baikampady, Mangalore, on 24 July 2025, with the objective of strengthening practical understanding of mechanical engineering concepts.
GTTC, established in 1972 in collaboration with the Government of Denmark, is a premier skill-development institution known for industry-oriented training. The Mangalore sub-centre offers diploma programs in Tool and Die Making, Precision Manufacturing, and Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning, supported by advanced, industry-standard infrastructure.
During the visit, students participated in an orientation session followed by a guided tour of key departments including manufacturing, assembly, quality control, and research and development. Live demonstrations of lathe machines, milling machines, CNC machines, hydraulic presses, and welding systems provided valuable exposure to modern machining processes. Interactive sessions with engineers and technicians offered insights into machine operations, maintenance practices, quality control, and workplace safety standards.
The visit enabled students to connect classroom learning with real-world industrial applications, gain familiarity with advanced manufacturing tools, and understand professional ethics and safety practices. Overall, the industrial visit proved to be an informative and motivating experience, reinforcing the importance of industry-aligned technical education.
