Industrial Visit to Nirmithi Kendra, Mangalore

Students of BIT Polytechnic visited Nirmithi Kendra, Mangalore, on 28 August 2025, gaining first-hand exposure to cost-effective, sustainable, and eco-friendly construction technologies that bridge classroom learning with real-world applications.

As part of the academic curriculum, an industrial visit was organized to Nirmithi Kendra, Mangalore, a leading institution dedicated to promoting affordable and sustainable building practices. The visit aimed to enhance students’ understanding of practical construction technologies and innovative housing solutions.

During the visit, students were introduced to a range of low-cost and eco-friendly construction techniques, including stabilized mud blocks, rat-trap bond masonry, filler slab roofing systems, and prefabricated building components such as doors, windows, and roofing panels. Demonstrations also highlighted the use of locally available and waste materials, along with rainwater harvesting and energy-efficient construction practices.

The visit enabled students to connect theoretical concepts with on-site applications, appreciate the importance of sustainable construction, and understand how cost efficiency can be achieved without compromising structural strength. This exposure provided valuable insights relevant to both rural and urban development projects.

The industrial visit proved to be an enriching learning experience, equipping students with practical knowledge that will support their academic growth and future careers in civil engineering.
